What we collect

Basket and Smart Basket information

Search phrases, selected products, quantities, retailer choices and comparison settings are used to build your results. Your saved basket and the Smart Basket profile that powers “Your usuals” are stored on your device by default.

Optional anonymous basket activity

If you switch this setting on, RandBasket receives basket-add, quantity-change and removal events containing the product, category, retailer, quantity, listed price, source and time. A random installation ID is transformed into a secret-keyed pseudonymous value before storage so duplicate events can be controlled and a deletion request can be applied. These events do not contain your name, email address, advertising ID or shopping coordinates.

A basket selection records shopping intent. It does not prove that a product was bought or that a retailer owes RandBasket a fee.

Optional shopping location

If you grant permission, RandBasket uses your approximate coordinates only while the app is open and sends them with a product search or basket comparison to select applicable nearby retailer offers. RandBasket does not save those coordinates in your device state or its catalogue database, include them in anonymous basket activity, create a location history, or track your movement in the background. The app still works with national fallback prices when location is not shared.

Suggestions and support

If you contact us, we receive the information you submit: your message, its category, the page it came from and any optional name or email address you provide.

Technical information

Our hosting and security providers may process ordinary request information such as IP address, browser type, device information, timestamps and security logs to deliver and protect the website.

• Use consented, aggregated basket activity to improve matching, understand demand and support future retailer attribution arrangements.
• Reply to support requests and investigate price or product corrections.
• Improve reliability, usability, security and retailer matching.
• Meet legal obligations and prevent misuse of the service.

Service providers and retailer links

RandBasket uses service providers for website hosting, security, databases and email delivery. They may process information only as needed to provide those services. We may also disclose information when required by law or necessary to protect users and the service.

Retailer links take you to third-party websites. Their privacy practices and purchases are governed by their own policies, not this policy.

Your choices and rights

You can pause personalisation or clear your on-device Smart Basket profile in Value Settings. Anonymous basket activity is off by default. If you enable it, you can switch it off from the same device to delete the pseudonymous event history associated with that installation.

You may also ask us to access, correct or delete personal information you submitted, or object to certain processing. These requests are handled subject to applicable South African law. We do not use suggestion contact details for marketing unless you clearly ask or consent to receive it.

Retention and security

Anonymous basket events expire after no more than 365 days. We keep other submitted information only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, improve RandBasket, maintain security and meet legal obligations. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online service can promise absolute security.
